Running the Great Weir

The Royalty is one of Southern England's most famous salmon and sea trout fisheries. Located in Christchurch and just a few miles from the mouth of the River Avon it produces salmon & sea trout throughout the season in most water conditions.

The Season opens in February when the first of the Avon's famous spring salmon arrive. The average weight for February through to April is still a magnificent 15lb. The Fishery record stands at 49lb. April sees the arrival of the first sea trout and these early fish can range between 4 and 10lb. June will normally see the arrival of the first grilse and the start of the main sea trout run. The season closes at the end of August for salmon and October 31st for sea trout.

The Fishery is open to the general public for day tickets and selected night fishing for sea trout. Ticket availability includes the famous Bridge Pool, Compound, and the main river.

Coaching and fly-casting lessons can also be arranged by contacting The Fishery Manager or Davis Tackle. Bookings are taken by the day or on an hourly basis.
